The government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana (PMKY) exclusively for farmers. Under this programme, the farmers’ diesel-powered irrigation machinery will be changed into solar-powered devices, and the farmers will be provided with solar energy. Plans have been developed to supply the plant, i.e. solar panels (Solar Subsidy Scheme)

Objectives

  1. The government will convert 17.5 lakh diesel-powered irrigation pumps to solar-powered pumps in the first phase of the Kusum Solar Pump Distribution Scheme.
  2. Farmers would receive a double advantage under the Kusum Solar Subsidy Scheme.
  3. Farmers will be able to use power for irrigation and make money by selling the remaining electricity to the grid under the Kusum programme.
  4. The Kusum Solar Subsidy Scheme will generate 28000 MW of additional electricity.

Highlights

  1. Farmer Energy Security and Upliftment Maha Abhiyan is the full name of the Kusum Yojana (PMKY).
  2. The government will use valorous energy to power three crore pumps in the country as part of the Kusum Solar Pump Distribution Scheme.
  3. Farmers only need to pay 10% of the cost under this arrangement.
  4. By 2022, the government hopes to have 30 million pumps throughout the country functioning on solar energy rather than electricity or fuel.
  5. The expenditure on the Kusum system will be split equally between the state and federal governments.
  6. In the first phase of the Kusum Solar Pump Distribution Scheme, 17.5 lakh diesel-powered irrigation pumps would be converted to solar-powered pumps.

Benefits

  1. The farming brothers’ irrigation will no longer require energy or diesel, resulting in significant savings.
  2. There will be a decrease in diesel-powered pumps and an increase in solar-powered pumps, resulting in proper irrigation.
  3. With the introduction of the Kusum project, poor farmers would be able to totally irrigate their agriculture, resulting in very good produce.
  4. Farmers were previously unable to irrigate effectively due to a lack of funds, but with the launch of the Kusum Yojana (PMKY), this problem will be resolved.
  5. The establishment of the Kusum Solar Pump Scheme (PMKY) would cut diesel use while also making fuel sources safe for future generations.
  6. Farmers will be allowed to sell extra electricity to the grid and earn money as a result of it.

Online Application procedure

  1. First and foremost, you must visit its official website.
  2. The portal must be logged into; to do so, enter the reference number provided on the portal.
  3. When you log in to the portal, an option called apply online appears in front of you. To apply for the Kusum Solar Pump Scheme (PMKY), you must click on the apply online button.
  4. When you click the Apply Online button, a registration screen appears in front of you.
  5. Now you must carefully and correctly fill out the registration form with all of your information.
  6. You will also be required to input some of your personal information in this application form, such as your name, phone number, email address, and so on.
  7. Once you’ve completed the form, double-check to see whether the information you’ve entered is correct. If all of the information is accurate, you must submit the form.
  8. When you submit the form, a user ID and password will be sent to your cell phone, allowing you to log in and change part of your information in Kusum Vitran Yojana.
